Jewelry Care

Mignon Faget jewelry is designed in our New Orleans studio and handcrafted by expert craftsmen. Properly maintained, your jewelry will bring you joy for many years.

Mignon Faget Polishing Cloths and Mignon Faget Foaming Jewelry Cleaner are available through all Mignon Faget galleries and online. To keep your Mignon Faget jewelry in excellent condition Mignon recommends that you follow these instructions:

Do:

  • Remove all jewelry prior to bathing, swimming, gardening, cleaning, heavy lifting and applying cosmetics. Chemicals in cosmetics, swimming pools and cleaning agents may damage metals, beading materials, and patinas.
  • Store your jewelry in a cool, dry place in your Mignon Faget tarnish-preventive pouch.
  • Store pieces individually. Precious metals such as Sterling Silver and 14K Gold can scratch easily.

Do Not:

  • Do not use tarnish-removing dips or silver polishes. These will damage the patina of your jewelry.
  • Do not use lemon-scented brands of liquid soap.
  • Do not use a polishing cloth on any plated jewelry designs.
  • Do not wear damaged jewelry. Jewelry can become damaged with regular wear.

Mignon Faget designs are handcrafted in Precious and Semi-Precious materials, including but not limited to: Sterling Silver, Solid 14K Yellow and Rose Gold, Rhodium Plated Sterling Silver, Gold Plated Sterling Silver, Gold Plated Base Metal, PVD, Bronze, Stainless Steel, Diamonds, Precious and Semi-Precious beads and cut stones, glass crystals and beads, Wood, Leather, and Fabric.

Metal & Material Specifications
Sterling Silver Designs

Sterling Silver has been used in Jewelry design for thousands of years due to its exceptional wearability. Exposure to air, excessive humidity, moisture, light and pollutants will cause your Sterling Silver jewelry to tarnish. Shiny finishes should be cleaned with a Mignon Faget polishing cloth. Matte and Penumbra finishes should be cleaned with a soft toothbrush and dry baking soda.

Every Mignon Faget design in Sterling Silver is crafted from genuine .925 silver, not silver plate, so the metal itself is what gives each piece its weight, warmth, and shine. As a precious metal, sterling silver carries real, lasting value. When you choose Mignon Faget Sterling Silver, you're choosing a piece made from solid precious metal, handcrafted in our New Orleans studio to be worn, cared for, and handed down for generations.

Solid 14K Gold Designs

Mignon Faget's Solid 14K Gold designs are cast in genuine 14 karat yellow gold, solid gold throughout, not plated, filled, or coated. Because the gold runs all the way through, the color and luster you fall in love with is permanent; it won't wear thin or fade with time. Solid gold is naturally resistant to tarnish, though it should still be kept away from harsh chemicals, cosmetics, lotions, and perfumes to preserve its finish. Shiny finishes should be cleaned with a Mignon Faget polishing cloth to maintain their brilliance; matte finishes should be cleaned with a soft toothbrush.

Gold has held its value as a store of wealth for centuries, and today's gold prices reflect that enduring demand. Investing in Solid 14K Gold means investing in a precious metal with real worth, not simply a finish. Each piece is handcrafted in our New Orleans studio to be an heirloom in the making: jewelry that holds its beauty and its value for a lifetime, and one that sets Mignon Faget apart from brands offering gold plating alone.

Jeweler's Bronze Designs

All Mignon Faget designs cast in Bronze are treated with an electroplated ceramic clear coating ("E-Coating") in order to protect the Bronze jewelry from chemical reactions and abrasions and help protect the skin from reaction. With proper care, bronze jewelry with this coating will maintain its original color and finish longer than untreated bronze.

What is E-Coating and its purpose?

  • A clear, invisible protective layer that acts as a barrier between the metal, your skin, and the environment
  • Helps preserve the original color, brightness, and finish
  • Reduces tarnishing and discoloration
  • Helps prevent skin reactions

E-Coating naturally wears over time and may be affected by daily wear, contact with hard surfaces, chemicals (lotions, perfume, etc.), water, and humidity. As it wears, the natural bronze beneath is revealed, and you may notice:

  • A deeper, warmer tone with a softer shine
  • Possible skin discoloration

These changes are completely normal and do not indicate damage. They’re simply part of the natural character of bronze as it evolves over time.

How to Clean and Care for Bronze Jewelry

  • Hand-polish with a polishing cloth to restore its golden glow
Clean gently at the surface, focusing on preventing buildup
  • Use Foaming Jewelry Cleaner sparingly—only when visibly dirty, not tarnished
  • Avoid over-cleaning, as it can wear down the E-Coating more quickly
  • Dry thoroughly after cleaning
  • Do not apply clear nail polish

Plated Jewelry Designs

Mignon Faget offers select Halo and chain designs in traditional gold plating, PVD plating, and anodized finishes. To extend the life of your plated or anodized jewelry, do not use a polishing cloth on these designs. These finishes can be damaged or removed by harsh chemicals, cosmetics, and solvents, and may also wear over time if the jewelry comes into contact with hard surfaces. Gold-plated designs may require periodic replating, available through Mignon Faget, Ltd. for a nominal fee. Chains, Halo designs, and other PVD-plated or anodized designs cannot be replated.

Stainless Steel Designs

Select Mignon Faget Halo designs feature a stainless steel ball chain, chosen for its strength and everyday durability. Stainless steel resists tarnish, corrosion, and scratching, making it a low-maintenance option for jewelry that's meant to be worn often. To clean, use Mignon Faget jewelry cleaning foam, followed by thorough drying. Avoid prolonged exposure to chlorine and other harsh chemicals, which can dull the finish over time. Unlike Sterling Silver and solid 14K Gold, stainless steel does not require a polishing cloth to maintain its shine.

Pearls and Beaded Designs

Do not submerge beaded pieces in soapy water. This will harm the beading thread. Avoid exposure to chemicals such as hair spray, body lotions or perfumes. Mignon Faget suggests that necklaces and bracelets be stored flat. Hanging on a hook can stretch the thread. Mignon also recommends having pearls restrung periodically to avoid breakage. Beaded necklaces that are worn everyday should be restrung once a year. Restringing is available through Mignon Faget, Ltd. for a nominal fee.

Stones

Some stones are hand selected and custom cut. Special care should be taken not to damage the stones. Rings should be removed before washing hands, swimming, cleaning, gardening and heavy lifting.

Note: Mignon Faget uses hand-selected stones and beads, stone colors and beading material may vary based on availability. Each jewelry design is delicate, special care should be taken not to damage the stones.
