October 14, 2026 Mignon Faget Forced to Relocate Magazine Street Gallery After New Building Owner Favors National Retailer Tenant

The uptown gallery of New Orleans’ own fine jewelry designer will be moving to a temporary pop-up at 3806 Magazine Street, after 27 years at its longtime address.

NEW ORLEANS, LA — October 14, 2026 — Effective October 30th, Mignon Faget’s gallery in uptown New Orleans will temporarily relocate to 3806 Magazine Street, after being pushed out of its current location to make way for a national retailer.

The months-long saga began when a developer acquired Mignon Faget’s current building and immediately began negotiating a new lease with increased rent. A staple in the New Orleans local economy, Mignon Faget agreed in good faith to several rent increases proposed during lease negotiations.

When it became clear the brand would not willingly be priced out of their current location, the new ownership begrudgingly admitted the real driver behind their actions. Aligning with a recent real estate and developer trend on the street, the building’s new owner revealed their preference to replace the successful local business with a national brand. After more than a quarter century on Magazine Street, New Orleans’ own jeweler has now been asked to give way.

From Small-Town Retail to World-Renowned Shopping Destination

When Mignon Faget opened her storefront on Magazine Street in November 1999, the corridor was not yet the celebrated six-mile destination it is today…but its potential was clear to Mignon.

“We will be part of the renaissance and excitement happening on Magazine Street, showing great design and great architecture. A beautifully restored 1896 building is my fourth gallery in New Orleans.” - Mignon Faget announcing her uptown gallery (press release from November 1999)

She was right about the renaissance. Local designers, makers and merchants like Mignon Faget built Magazine Street’s character long before it drew visitors from around the world. That character is why the street is unlike anywhere else, and why the heritage and legacy of those successful local businesses must be protected.

In a world that is constantly evolving, today Mignon Faget welcomes change and recognizes the importance of national brands as part of a healthy retail mix — even on Magazine Street. But to force Mignon Faget out of its longtime home while so many storefronts along the corridor sit empty, feels like a betrayal of the very community that made this street worth investing in.

“We believed we would be offered a lease and accepted everything that was asked of us, to no avail. This street was built by people who believed in the potential of this place long before anyone else did. That is still who we are, and we will not abandon Magazine Street - against our will - quietly. We invite our Collectors and local community to visit us in our new, temporary home, until we can find a welcoming new space for Mignon Faget, right here on Magazine Street.” - Maghan Oroszi, CEO of Mignon Faget

Across the Street, Ahead of Schedule

The new Mignon Faget gallery will be located at 3806 Magazine Street (directly across from the gallery’s former location) within the Magazine Court building, which is home to several established local business owners and advocates for Magazine Street. Previously occupied by local fashion designer Sue Sartor, the space opened up and allowed Mignon Faget to leave its existing location ahead of its forced move-out date…and stay on the very street it helped establish as a premier shopping destination.

“Magazine Street is what it is because of businesses like Mignon Faget. When this space opened up, we were thrilled at the prospect of housing a Magazine Street Icon, despite the untoward circumstances. We are honestly proud to be a part of keeping a New Orleans original on this block.” — Adrienne Casbarian, Occupant of Magazine Court

The pop-up will serve as Mignon Faget’s temporary uptown home while the company searches for a permanent gallery space on Magazine Street.
